Facial Plastics and Reconstruction

Facial Plastics and Reconstruction

Our facial plastic and reconstructive surgery services restore both form and function for patients in Carlsbad and across the San Diego area. From repairing nasal and facial fractures to refining scars, treating keloids, and reconstructing the face after Mohs skin cancer surgery, our team blends surgical precision with an artist’s eye to help you look and feel like yourself again.

Procedures We Offer

Each treatment we provide is tailored to your individual anatomy, goals, and lifestyle. Here’s a quick look at the procedures available:

Functional Rhinoplasty

Reshaping the nose to improve breathing affected by old fractures, valve collapse, or prior surgery.

Mohs Reconstruction

Restoring the face after skin cancer removal with techniques that hide incisions in natural lines.

Scar Revision

Improving the size, shape, color, and texture of scars to make them as inconspicuous as possible.

Keloids

Treating overgrown scar tissue with surgery, low-dose radiation, and therapeutic injections.

Vascular Birthmarks & Malformations

Care for hemangiomas, port wine stains, and vascular anomalies using surgery, lasers, and sclerotherapy.

Nasal Fractures

Time-sensitive resetting of broken nasal bones, ideally within 7–10 days of injury.

Facial Fractures

Prompt repair of fractured facial bones to protect vision, smell, chewing, and appearance.

Functional Rhinoplasty

Sometimes the outer shape of the nose affects breathing. Rhinoplasty to correct this problem is called functional rhinoplasty. Functional rhinoplasty can address issues from old nasal fractures, nasal valve stenosis and collapse, and problems that have occurred after prior surgery which affect nasal breathing.

Mohs Reconstruction

Dermatologists often perform Mohs surgery to address skin cancers of the face, head, and neck. Afterward, the resultant defects can be large or located on cosmetically sensitive areas of the face. In these cases, reconstruction of the defects after Mohs surgery is performed with flaps of skin designed to locate the incisions in inconspicuous locations and make the result appear natural and seamless with the natural lines of the face.

Scar Revision

Scars can almost always be improved. A combination of surgery, laser treatment, and therapeutic injections can improve the shape, size, thickness, redness, and location of scars to reduce their cosmetic and functional effects and make them as inconspicuous as possible.

Keloids

Keloids are a type of scar reaction that can result in large growths at the site of prior cuts or incisions. They can be treated with surgery, low-dose radiation, and therapeutic injections to remove them and reduce the risk of them coming back.

Vascular Birthmarks and Vascular Malformations

Vascular malformations include venous malformations, arteriovenous malformations, and lymphatic malformations. Vascular birthmarks include hemangiomas and port wine stains. These are growths or collections of blood vessels that often, but not always, have been present since birth. They are treated with a combination of medication, surgery, laser treatment, and therapeutic injections called sclerotherapy.

Suspect a Facial or Nasal Fracture? Time Matters.

Fractures are most successfully treated within the first 7–10 days. Call us at 760-334-5466 right away to schedule an evaluation.

Nasal Fractures

Nasal fractures generally need to be addressed within 7–10 days of the injury to ‘re-set’ the bones and reduce the risk of any cosmetic or functional issues when the nose heals. Reducing or resetting the nasal bones can be performed in the office or the operating room. You should contact a facial plastic surgeon immediately after a nasal fracture to schedule the appropriate timing for evaluation and treatment.

Facial Fractures

Fractures of the facial bones need to be addressed promptly in order to prevent them from causing long-term disfigurement or functional problems with vision, smell, or chewing. Not all facial fractures require surgical treatment, but it is important to contact a facial plastic surgeon immediately after any facial fractures to schedule the appropriate timing for evaluation and treatment.
